The ASHP Foundation's 2005 Award for Excellence
in Medication-Use Safety

Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (ENH) was honored by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) for implementing a completely electronic medical record system and promoting patient safety in medication use. The 2005 Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety recognized ENH's dedication to reducing or eliminating many medication errors including a full elimination of transcription-related errors, a 70% reduction in delayed administration, and a 50% decrease in the time between an order being placed for an antibiotic and its administration.

In response to the award, Lynn Boecler, Senior Director of Pharmacy Services for ENH, said, "Being granted this award validates our effort to completely transform how we provide care through the implementation of integrated electronic health records as the right thing to do for our patients."

Two other healthcare organizations were recognized as finalists for the award: Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento and St. Francis Hospitals and Health Center in Beech Grove, Indiana.
